AN/TRM, 170HZ TU and Teletype
Old Radio Test Equipment from the 50s, A Terminal Unit from the 70s and the continuing RTTY Struggle
First off it is still lock down time in California, I am still working like normal since I work for a county agency but things are different. I would imagine this is what it would be like to live in communist Russia.
Alrighty then on to the business at hand,
I have had an AN/TRM-1 Radio test set built in the late 1950s for a few years and just never have done much with it. It was one of those bargain finds that I really did not need but could not pass up. I have finally pulled it out and found a use for it, as a low power transmitter to test other equipment. It has a frequency range of 190kz to 400mhz so it pretty much covers the entire spectrum. You can inject a signal into it (Big Band Music to test old Philco Radios) ect… It also has a basic tone you can hear that sounds like a CW carrier. I have included a picture below. I will be refurbishing the case but other then changing a plug the inside is in immaculate condition. I have a manual for it here
I also picked up a Flesher 170hz TU that I will be using for regular Amateur radio operation. My military stuff only does military shift but I can tune in regular amateur radio it just requires some addition frequency adjustments to compensate for the 200, 450, 850 shift used by the Navy. I also have a manual for the Flesher TU-170 here.
As far as my quest to get on the MRCG RTTY net on Saturday's I have had trouble. I can copy with the CV-483 but Failed with my CV-2460, I had to calibrate it as the frequency and tone was out of calibration. I believe that I have the bugs worked out and will be trying to get it on the air this weekend again. As of late I have been using FT8 so look me up I am always on 40 at night (Sometimes 80) and during the day on the weekends I cruise around from 10-20m and everything in between.
Until next time stay safe and resist the governments overbearing wants.
